Apprenticeship Learning Journey
Kevin came to the Utilities Academy on an apprenticeship program through Search, one of our recruitment partners. He is working towards being a fully qualified smart meter engineer with his employer Siemens.
Starting in November 2016, Kevin began with his electrical modules both classroom and practical based in our award winning facility. Changing meters in a variety of scenarios and configurations is a fundamental part of his training in preparation for working in the field.
Along side his electrical training, Kevin completed his function skills modules, passing English level 1 and Maths level 2. This is something offered by the utilities academy which is essential to preparing our learners to be the most well rounded in the industry.
Once the electrical modules had been completed, Kevin moved onto gas. The training started with pipe work, tightness testing, flue and ventilation. The theory part of the course is only the start of it, Kevin then went out on site with his employer to complete his gas portfolio, gaining experience and documenting his installs.
Upon returning to the Utilities Academy after his work placement, he successfully completed his ACS assessment, which is the all important qualification to work with gas.
Kevin will now return to his employer where he will continually developed and assessed leading to being fully qualified by December 2017.
